Critics' Choice Award goes to OJC member!
Each year the Ottawa Art Gallery hosts a premier art auction and gala event. We are pleased to announce that we will be participating and donating 3 pieces to their much anticipated Silent Auction.
Participating jewellery artists in this years' auction are Caelen Ellis (critic's choice award), Chayle Cook, and Erin Wallace.
Caelen Ellis" Seeds of Hope"2016
Fairmined silver, fairmined gold, ethically-sourced rough diamond cubes, 85 x 9 mm Market Value: $1,800.00
"This piece was inspired by the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The seeds in the pod represent new beginnings, growth and hope for the future. Made with Fairmined 18k yellow gold and Fairmimed
silver alongside 5 carats of natural ethically sourced diamond cubes."

Chayle Cook
"Lacuna of the Elm"
2013-15
Marble, sterling silver, black patina, 7 x 3 x 0.8 cm
Market Value: $620.00
"In my art practce, I seek to study the geometries, structures, and spaces within the lines of overlapping tree branches, and reconstruct their complexites into jewellery. The necklace “Lacuna of the Elm” evolved from my experiences in Estonia where I studied stone carving, and from my travelling in Italy to see marble sculptures. I have used a blackened silver structure, like a drawn outline, to capture the illusion of branches seen through the negatve spaces between tree branches. “Lacuna of the Elm” is a piece that delicately hovers between drawing, sculpture, jewellery, and personal sentmentality towards emptness, loss, and preciousness."
Erin Wallace
"Pinched Forest Cuff"
2016
Etched sterling silver, 6 x 2.5 x 5 cm
Market Value: $350.00
"The majesty of the Canadian landscape is represented by the asymmetrical geometry of this piece. Texture and form reflect the complexity within Canada; connecting the wearer with nature, and reaffirming our bond with the earth. Erin Wallace is a silversmith and metal artist, from Ottawa. She approaches her craft as a mean of creating wearable metal art that is not only elegant and versatile but a pleasure to wear and touch. Erin studied sculpture at the University of Guelph and Jewelry at the Haliburton School of the Arts. Her pieces can be found at art galleries and boutiques across Ontario."
